Job Description:

  • This position advances Denver Zoo’s mission and goals by providing operational and consultative support for process improvement models, tools and methodologies in support of the organization’s implementation of lean management/process improvement principles.
  • Works with a team of subject matter experts to identify and execute process improvement projects that sustainably improve guest and employee experiences while enhancing overall performance.
  • In this role, the employee will lead project efforts including: conducting diagnostic studies of existing processes; GAP analysis and design work; developing and implementing solutions; leading advanced training sessions and providing coaching and development on process improvement practices.

Duties: Essential Functions:

  • Adheres to and promotes Denver Zoo’s mission, core values, and strategic initiatives.
  • Works across the organization with Zoo black belts to identify issues and opportunities and to initiate process improvement efforts.
  • Serves as an internal consultant in the areas of process improvement, change management, performance monitoring, and data analysis.
  • Serves as a process facilitator and leads departments in optimizing workflows to positively impact financial and operational performance.
  • Utilizes advanced Lean principles and tools, including value stream maps, visual management, facilitation, and project and change management skills to support continuous improvement.
  • Analyzes and identifies process improvement opportunities and partners with key stakeholders to ensure alignment with strategic imperatives.
  • Builds commitment to business process management and improvement through a focus on effective process development, integrated process development, integrated project/change management and implementation.
  • Coaches managers on leadership standard work and how to train their employees on Lean methods and tools.
  • Provides strong support in cultivating an environment that encourages problem solving, critical thinking, and innovation.
  • Promotes consistency and standardization across the organization with emphasis on training and standardized follow-up.
  • Develops and maintains an infrastructure of Lean information allowing the organization to easily share problem solving initiatives and to effectively manage version control and standard work.
  • Creates and deploys effective strategies to share best practices and communicate Continuous Improvement Program progress and events.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to Denver Zoo’s Safety & Sustainability Policies by adhering to all environmental, safety, & health regulations, procedures, and goals.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Performs various tasks as assigned.
  • Teaches classes on the fundamentals of Lean as well as specific methods and tools used in problem solving and process improvement.

Qualifications: 

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in process improvement leadership.
  • Experience in operations management working with frontline leaders and process owners. Strong, successful experience in leading process improvement projects and leading and managing teams to deliver results.
  • Strong, proven experience with leadership, business acumen, problem solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to influence and affect change at all levels of an organization.

Skills:

  • Developed facilitation skills, knowledge of tools and techniques of methods to engage and lead groups of people.
  • Ability to define and prioritize problems and manage workload without direct supervision.
  • Ability to apply problem solving practices and principles in a wide range of contexts.
  • Ability to both perform data analysis and to distill meaning and trends into graphical forms.
  • Strong business analysis, process improvement, change management, and project management skills.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills. Proven ability to coach, train, mentor, and facilitate.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for interaction with team members and management.
