CDOT Team Finalist 2014-2015 International Team Excellence Award

2.23.15 | Filed Under: News

Colorado Department of Transportation’s (CDOT) Access Permitting Process Improvement Team has been named as one of 40 Finalists for the 2014-2015 International Team Excellence Award (ITEA)!

This team and 39 others from across the world will compete during the ITEA Finals in May at ASQ’s World Conference on Quality and Improvement (WCQI) in Nashville, Tennessee.

This Team successfully improved the process for issuing access permits for Colorado highways.

The Team applied Lean principles and practices to reduce the elapsed time for issuing highway access permits by 38% (compared to the baseline in 2011) without adding cost.

Additionally, the Team implemented “Amazon-like” transparency: permit applicants can now view the status of their applications online, anytime, anywhere.

This helps us execute CDOT’s goal to make government services more effective, efficient and elegant!

This is the second such honor for a CDOT process improvement team — two years ago, the CDOT Oversize (OS)/Overweight (OW) Permits process improvement team was named a national Finalist and completed for in the ITEA Finals during the 2013 WCQI in Indianapolis.

Gary Vansuch, CDOT’s Process Improvement Director (and a member of ASQ’s Boulder Section) said the news that the Access Permits Team had reached the national finals was good news, indeed.

  • This is a fitting testament to the efforts of this team
  • The competition against improvement teams from all over the world will be an outstanding experience
